The Intel Core i9-11900K excels in PassMark single-threaded performance but succumbs to the AMD Ryzen 5000 series in other CPU Mark metrics - Notebookcheck.net

The Intel Core i9-11900K has posted the highest single-threaded rating on PassMark, putting it 6% ahead of the Core i7-11700K and 7% beyond the Ryzen 7 5800X. AMD's Vermeer processors retain a massive lead in other PassMark metrics, though.

Intel is due to release the Rocket Lake-S soon, but the Core i7-11700K and Core i9-11900K are already doing the rounds on benchmarking websites. Last week, the two eight-core processors showcased their capabilities on Geekbench, appearances that have been replicated on PassMark. Earlier this month, the Core i7-11700K scored 3,548 in CPU Mark's single-threaded performance benchmark, putting it top of PassMark's leaderboard.

However, the Core i9-11900K has now posted an improved result with a single thread rating of 3,764. In percentage terms, that means that the Core i9-11900K outscored the Core i7-11700K by 6% and the highest-ranked AMD processor, the Ryzen 7 5800X, by 7%. PassMark reports that the Core i9-11900K achieved its table-topping rating with a 100 MHz lower base clock speed than the Core i7-11700K; presumably, the Core i9 CPU has a higher boost clock than its Core i7 sibling, but the PassMark listing does not reveal this.

While the Core i9-11900K dominates PassMark's single thread ratings, PassMark believes that it cannot compete against AMD's high-end Vermeer SKUs in other metrics. The Core i9-11900K is well down on the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X in PassMark's cross-platform rating, for example. Additionally, the Rocket Lake-S processor is way behind the two Vermeer processors on PassMark's CPU rating.
